About these Dinosaur pages

The word dinosaur means “terrible lizard”, a name coined by the scientist Richard Owen in 1842, but on a coloring page most dinosaurs are a set of fun shapes. Stegosaurus has two rows of tall plates down its back and four spikes on its tail, Triceratops has three horns and a wide bony frill behind its head, and long-necked Brachiosaurus can fill a whole page from its small head to its thick legs.

Scientists know the real colors of only a few feathered dinosaurs, so kids are free to invent their own: stripes, spots or rainbow scales are all fair. Toddler pages show one big dinosaur with thick outlines; older kids get volcanoes, ferns and whole herds to color.
